Old castle of Celje
A magnificent fortified castle that reigns on the hill above the city for centuries will leave you speechless when you see it from afar. It represents one of the most important medieval castles in Slovenia from the 12th century. It was ruled by the Dynasty of Celje, whose strongest and most influential representative was Herman II. During his reign, Celje reached the peak of their glory, successfully joined the European political summit and associated themselves with the most important noble families of the time. In 1436 Sigismund of Luxemburg, the Duke of Luxembourg raised two representatives of the Celje family to be princes - Friderik II. and Ulrik II. Twenty years later, with the death of the last male offspring of the Celje family, one of the most important periods of the Celje history ended.
