The Museum of New History is located in the building of the former city magistrate in the city center. By reviving objects and their stories, it clarifies the past, helps to understand the present and co-create the future.

PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS

The diary of three generations  

The exhibition represents the life of the locals in the 20th century. In the ambient walk through Celje, you can enter the workshops of individual craftsmen and get to know their work or visit a museum pharmacy and a bourgeois apartment. Delavsko Celje is dedicated to the tradition of the Celje industry.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday: from 9:00 to 17:00, Saturday: from 9:00 to 13:00, Sunday and public holidays: from 14:00 to 18:00

Children's Museum Hermanov brlog

The only children's museum in Slovenia, helps children to get to know and understand the world they live in. Popular mascot Herman the fox presents original content at occasional exhibitions, and from 2014 on the permanent exhibition Brlog igrač.
Opening hours: Tuesday-Friday: from 9:00 to 17:00, Saturday: from 9:00 to 13:00, Sunday and Sunday: from 14:00 to 18:00

Dental collection

A unique collection in Slovenia offers an insight into the equipment and instruments that were used especially in the 20th century by Slovenian dentists and dental technicians. It also shows the development of the dental profession in the area.

Photo studio and the Pelikan Gallery, Razlagova ulica 5

The glass photo studio of 1899 represents the life and work of the Celje photographer master Josip Pelikan. The studio has preserved and exhibited photographers' original equipment, including a glass salon, where it is also possible to have your picture taken.

Stari pisker, Prešernova ulica

Former prisons were the scene of Nazi violence during World War II. Today, in the part of the Stari pisker - yard and memorial room - a museum layout tells the story of the dark period of our not so distant past.

THE PROVINCIAL MUSEUM OF CELJE

In the Provincial Museum of Celje, museum exhibits are exhibited at two locations in the city center itself - in the Old county and the Duke’s court. By visiting the permanent exhibitions, you can take a walk from the prehistory until today.  
 
At the Old county there are the following permanent exhibitions available:
  • Lapidarium, where stone monuments take you to the time of the Roman Celeia;
  • A cultural and historical collection, which presents a rich collection of furniture, paintings, graphics and other items from the period between the 13th and the beginning of the 20th century. The exhibition also includes "From Gothic to Historic Step by Step" for people with visual impairments;
  • Celje ceiling - represents the central attraction of the museum and at the same time one of the rare examples of profane painting at the transition from the Renaissance to the early Baroque;
  • Ethnological collection - represents a plentiful choice of the spiritual and material heritage of the Celje region;
  • Exhibition Alma M. Karlin Roads, which breaks down the life of the artist from Celje, world traveler and writer Alma M. Karlin (1889 - 1950).
At the Duke’s court you can see:
  • Celeio - a city below the city where, among other things, you see the Roman road, the walls with the western city gate and the foundations of the city’s villas of Celeia "in situ";
  • Exhibition The Counts of Celje, where on the two floors of the palace we present the rise and collapse of the dynasty of Counts of Celje, including their skulls.

Opening Hours:

Mondays and Holidays: CLOSED, except February 8
March - October:   Tuesday - Sunday: 10:00 – 18:00
November - February: Tuesday - Friday: 10:00 – 16:00, Saturday: 10:00 – 13:00, Sunday: CLOSED
Opening times apply to all permanent and occasional exhibitions in the Old Counties and the Duke’s court. For announced groups, the tour is also possible outside of the working hours of the museum.
